Recently, our company has started talking about the importance of corporate architecture. Our executives believe that it is a key component of a successful strategy, but I am not quite clear how exactly it affects business decisions. We have tried to implement several systems, but we have encountered integration problems. How do you know in practice that enterprise architecture really helps in building strategy and not just adding costs? Do you have experience that could explain this?

I've heard of enterprise architecture, but haven't worked directly with it in my company yet. I always thought it was primarily about IT systems, but it seems to be much broader than just technical aspects. Apparently it helps to link strategic goals with real actions at the level of all processes. I wonder how in practice it helps companies to be more flexible and efficient.
